Vince Young, Let's Talk

Dear Vincent Paul Young, Jr.,

Let me talk to you for a minute. Look, you are a very talented football player and you have the potential to be a great quarterback in the NFL. You have a strong arm, quick feet, a ton of athletic ability and the movement to make you and your team a success. So what are you doing??? What’s going on with you? Sit down and talk to Dr. Mama Diva for a spell. Let’s chat.

What about the NFL scares you? There has to be something to make you do the things you do. You are playing with one of most historical franchises in the NFL. You are playing for a sure-fire Hall of Fame Coach, who is the longest tenured coach in the League. You have an owner who supports you, a team who is ready for you to lead them and fans who got excited every time you stepped on the field. You were that player that Titans fans (like me) were salivating over having.

What are you afraid of?

Is it playing the game? Noooooooo can’t be. You’ve proven that you can do that many times over. Is it the limelight? I don’t think so. At the University of Texas, you were a superstar. Is it that you’re not the BMOC? Well you need to just get over that! Maybe you’re starting to doubt your worth to your team. Well that shouldn’t be a problem, look at your record in the NFL. Look how great the team did at the end of last season when you came back? Is it the coaching staff? I don’t see how. Tennessee has one of the best and most consistent coaching staffs in the league. They have been bending over backwards to help you be the best you can be. (At least that’s how it looked to me)

OK let me just say this and get it out of the way. I’m tired of pussyfooting around.

GET OVER IT!!!!

You’re almost 28 years old. You’re a PROFESSIONAL football player in the NFL. You have a team, an organization and a fan base depending on you doing your job. Your job? Getting your ass on the field during games, practice, workouts, OTA’s or whatever team activity is happening, official and unofficial. Your responsibility? To study film, the playbook, meet with the coaches and anything you have to do to get prepared for the game. Your reward? The satisfaction of knowing that you’ve done the best you can do to get the best outcome possible AND YOUR PAYCHECK!!

I understand that the pressure may be too much sometimes, but you know what you have to do. Put on your big boy pants and deal with it! Real Men don’t run away from their problems; real men don’t pout when they don’t get their way; real men don’t throw their uniforms into the stands. Real men don’t send a text message apology. A real man would go to that person and apologize face to face. I am not even going to start on you showing up at a game and leaving before it was over. Boy, I could smack you upside your head!

You’ve shown flashes of greatness and flashes of maturity. You handled defeat graciously when Reggie Bush’s name was announced at the Heisman trophy presentation…show that maturity level now! Despite what you may think, we do not want Kerry Collins as our starting QB. You may be a special talent, but you are not irreplaceable! Cam Newton looks just as good coming out of Auburn as you did out of Texas – maybe better. Bud Adams may like you, but he is not going to put his franchise on hold for you! If you won’t act right, he’ll find someone who will!

Now get your mind right, get your s**t together, check your attitude, suck it up and do what you were drafted to do, do what you’re getting paid to do, do what you know how to do!

Do not make me have to drive the 4 hours to Nashville or the 14 hours to Houston to have this talk again. Dr. Mama Diva does not like to repeat herself but I will if I have to and that’s not good for anyone!

One more thing, on your team bio, you listed sleep as one of your hobbies. Seriously Vince?? Not a good look. Grow up, get your mind right and stop acting like a spoiled child!

Sincerely,

Dr. Mama Diva

Sports Cynts Sports Talk Cooking Show Recipe Blog

We had a great show on Friday.  Should college athletes be paid to pay college sports was the topic and we had some great comments.  The show got so involved that the recipe didn't get finished.  As promised here is the recipe for the Cinnamon Apple Scones.  Enjoy!

Cinnamon Apple Scones

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons shortening, chilled
2 apple - peeled, cored and chopped
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar
1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional)

Directions

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2.Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl. Using the dough mixer on your mixer cut in the shortening with the flour mixture until it resembles coarse corn meal.

3. Stir in the apples.

4.Whisk 1 egg, yogurt, 1 tablespoon milk, and almond extract together in a bowl until smooth. Stir the egg mixture into the flour mixture until blended. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead 4 to 5 times. Shape the dough in a 1 1/2 inch thick circle.

5. Cut dough into 8 wedges, and place on the parchment covered baking sheet.

6. To make the scone topping, whisk the remaining 1 tablespon of milk and 1 egg together in a small bowl. Brush the tops of scones with the egg mixture then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.  Sprinkle with almonds (if desired).

7. Bake in preheated oven about 20 minutes or until tops are golden brown, and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Sports Cynts Show for April 23, 2010

The “Mixing It Up!” Show on April 23 was eye opening!

We explored about how teams mesh together with players, coaches, owners, office personnel and even fans! We talked about the first round of the NFL Draft where Tim Tebow was taken in the first round and we’re waiting to see where Myron Rolle will go! I’ve been saying that any team that selected Tebow or Rolle would be getting great teammates who will work hard and do what it takes to be successful. Plus they’re 2 of the highest character guys with strong work ethics in this year’s draft.

Another offshoot topic was how AFC and NFC teams looked to me when I was young, based on how gritty the picture was on AFC games channel and how clear and bright it was on the NFC games channel.

Here is the recipe for the dessert we prepared - Mini Swirl Cheesecakes:

Mini Swirl Cheesecakes

6 Oreo cookies
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2/3 cup sugar
4 squares semisweet baking chocolate
Muffin Tin
Foil or Paper baking cups

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Line muffin tins with 12 foil or paper baking cups.

3. Divide Oreos in half making sure each half has cream on it. Place cream-topped cookies in the baking cups, cream side up.

4. In a medium mixing bowl beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add eggs, lemon juice, and sugar and beat until smooth and thoroughly combined.

5. Place chocolate in a microwavable bowl. Microwave on high 1 to 1 ½ minutes or until chocolate is melted. After 1 minute, the squares will retain their shape until you stir them. If they’re not completely melted, continue microwaving in 15 second increments until melted (up to 1 ½ minutes).

6. Place about 1 heaping tablespoon of mixture into each muffin cup.

7. Add 6 tablespoons of the cream cheese batter to the melted chocolate. Beat until well blended. Spoon chocolate mixture over plain mixture in muffin cups and top with the remaining cream cheese batter. Swirl the chocolate and cream cheese batters together with a knife before baking..

8. Bake in preheated oven for 17 to 22 minutes. Cool on a rack. Pipe whipped cream or sweetened cream cheese on top of each cheesecake just prior to serving, if desired.

Don’t forget that I’m still looking for sponsorship to go to the 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame Experience in Canton, Ohio August 6 – 9. I’ll blog, tweet and hopefully do my show on location if I get there!

Remember: Let your presence be a blessing to others.

Thank you for joining us and thank you for your support!
